Après des études scientifiques (diplomé Maître es Sciences Physiques en 1969) et dix années consacrées à la peinture, Patrick BAILLY-MAÎTRE-GRAND travaille avec les outils photographiques depuis 1980. Ses œuvres, strictement analogiques, argentiques noir & blanc, sans interventions ni corrections numériques (de la prise de vue, aux tirages qu'il réalise lui-même), se caractérisent par un imaginaire ludique, associé à un goût pour les technologies complexes (voirLexique Technique) tels que le Daguerréotype, la périphotographie, la strobophotographie, les virages chimiques, les monotypes directs, les rayogrammeset d'autres inventions de son cru. Fuyant la notion de la perspective, ses images, bien que très sophistiquées pour leur élaboration, ont la simplification de proverbes visuels, épurés comme des haïkus.

After scientific studies (Master of Sciences in 1969) and 10 years dedicated to the painting, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand uses the photographic tools since 1980. His works, strictly analogical, with silver gelatin prints (of the recording, to the prints which he realizes himself), are characterized by a playful imagination, associated with the using of complex technologies (see the technical lexicon) such as the Daguerreotype,the periphotography, the strobophotography, the chemical bends, the direct one-design monotypes, the rayogrammes and some othersself-made inventions. Avoiding the notion of the perspective, its images, although very sophisticated for their elaboration, have the simplification of visual proverbs, purified as haikus.
