The town of Colmar, fascinated by my Bonbonne’s Band, invited me to visit their museums and to picture them too through spherical containers full of water. For the occasion, I perfected my method by abandoning the round-necked bottles (which did enable me to hang them up easily) in favour of a very sophisticated « bubble telescope » in which I had carefully inserted a sphere of water on a glass plaque. The crystalline sphere thus seemed to be levitating. What more can I say about my childish joy in discovering in these images the pleasure of « photography within a photo »? Is not this inverted image, with its blurred background, the very essence of the making of a photographic image in the camera’s frosted glass?
