Here I applied the same periphotographic technique (*) as for « Les Trophées »(2008), but this time using a very strange horse’s skull, engraved with elegant human and animal motives. This striking object, purchased one day in a second-hand shop in Strasbourg comes, I am assured, from the Sunda Islands in Indonesia, and more specifically from the island of Sumba, where the inhabitants worship the horse.
I wanted to continue this idolatry by making other chimeric idols appear out of this skull, created by the distortion inherent in the periphotographic process. The photograph, a bit more complex with the rotation axe out of centre, produced these sorts of long necked dragons. Quite unusual chessmen !

(*) Periphotography : Complex photographic technique whereby a panorama, or the entire surface of a cylindrical object, can be fixed on a single image. The perfect synchronization of both movements, transfer and rotation, are required.
